The heart of any gripping bestseller is a strong character. Not a two-dimensional character that will easily and obviously overcome the obstacles and destroy the bad guy. One of the greatest things about being a writer is you get to take your own personal shortcomings (and believe me, we all have our share of shortcomings!) and transform them into your strengths as a writer. And the more honest you are with yourself, the more believable your characters will be. Which of course, will make your stories more entertaining, and your career as a writer all the more successful.
